Contact us
Email support@speakgoat.app. We reply as soon as we can.
In the app, Profile › Settings › About › Contact support opens an email with your app version filled in.
To help us help you faster, include:
- Your ID (see Find Your ID)
- your phone model, and whether it runs iOS or Android
- what you did, what happened and what you expected
SpeakGOAT is run by Gamified Marketing LLC, a [STATE] limited liability company. Mailing address: [MAILING ADDRESS].
Find Your ID
SpeakGOAT has no password account. The first time you open the app, it creates a random ID for that phone. We call it Your ID.
- Open the Profile tab.
- Tap the gear icon at the top right to open Settings.
- Tap Account. Your ID is in the You section.
Press and hold the ID to copy it, then paste it into your email. You can also take a screenshot. Please put it in every email. Our records are linked to this ID, not to your name or email, so without it we cannot find them.
Manage or cancel a subscription
SpeakGOAT Pro has a monthly plan and an annual plan. The App Store or Google Play bills you, so you change or cancel your plan there. The app shows the price before you buy.
Deleting the app or your data does not cancel a subscription.
iPhone
- Open the Settings app and tap your name.
- Tap Subscriptions, then SpeakGOAT.
- Choose another plan, or tap Cancel Subscription.
Or go to apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions.
Android
- Open the Google Play Store app.
- Tap your profile picture, then Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
- Tap SpeakGOAT, then Cancel subscription.
Or go to play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions.
From the app
If you have Pro, Profile › Settings › Subscription › Manage subscription opens the same store page.
When you cancel, you keep Pro until the end of the period you already paid for.
Refunds
Apple or Google took your payment, so ask them for a refund first.
- iPhone: go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with your Apple Account, choose Request a refund, and pick the SpeakGOAT purchase. Only Apple can refund an App Store purchase.
- Android, within 48 hours of buying: go to play.google.com, click your profile picture, then Payments & subscriptions, then Budget & order history. Next to the SpeakGOAT order, click Report a problem, choose the option that fits and say you want a refund. See Google's Request a refund on Google Play.
- Android, after 48 hours: email support@speakgoat.app with Your ID and your Google Play order number, and we will look at your request.
Cancelling a plan does not refund past payments. If a refund is approved, Pro may stop.
Restore purchases
Use this if you pay for Pro but the app shows the free plan, for example on a new phone or after you reinstall the app.
- Make sure the phone is signed in to the Apple Account or Google account you paid with.
- Go to Profile › Settings › Subscription › Restore purchases. The same link is at the bottom of the Pro plans screen.
If the store finds your plan, Pro turns on. In Settings, the app says "Your Pro plan is active on this account". On the Pro plans screen, the screen closes. If the app says "No purchase found for this account", check which account the phone uses. Still stuck? Email us with Your ID.
Free trial
- The annual plan has a 7-day free trial. The monthly plan has no trial.
- Apple or Google decides whether your account can get the trial. If you already had one, the app shows the regular annual price instead.
- If you do not cancel, the trial becomes a paid annual plan when it ends. The Pro plans screen shows the price before you start.
- To avoid being charged, cancel before the trial ends: on the App Store at least 24 hours before, on Google Play any time before it ends. See Manage or cancel a subscription.
- If notifications are on, the app may remind you 2 days before the trial ends.
The microphone is not working
SpeakGOAT needs the microphone to score your lines and for calls with Goat. On iPhone it also needs Speech Recognition. If you said no when the app asked, turn access on in your phone's settings. On iPhone the app cannot ask again. On Android it may ask once more, but after you say no twice, only your phone's settings can turn it on.
iPhone
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap Apps, then SpeakGOAT. On older iOS versions, scroll down and tap SpeakGOAT.
- Turn on Microphone and Speech Recognition.
- Close SpeakGOAT fully, then open it again.
Android
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap Apps, then SpeakGOAT. You may need to tap See all apps first.
- Tap Permissions, then Microphone, and choose Allow only while using the app.
- Close SpeakGOAT fully, then open it again.
Still not working? Make sure no other app, such as a phone call, is using the microphone. Then email us with Your ID and your phone model.
How scores work
After you say a line, you get a score from 0 to 100. Each word is marked by how clearly it was heard. A score comes from one of two methods:
- Pronunciation scoring. When it is available, your recording may be sent to Microsoft Azure, which rates your accuracy, your fluency and how much of the line you said. For Pro members it may also rate rhythm and intonation.
- Word matching. Otherwise the app compares the words speech recognition heard with the words of the line. This checks whether your words were recognised, not how natural you sounded.
Your score for the same line can differ because:
- a different method scored it, for example when you are offline
- background noise, a quiet voice or distance from the phone made words hard to hear
- speech recognition misheard a word you said well
- you skipped words or added extra ones, which both lower the score
- the line came from YouTube's automatic captions, which can get a few words wrong
Casual forms count as the full words, so "gonna" matches "going to". Scores are practice feedback, not a test result.
Turn reminders on or off
Go to Profile › Settings › Notifications. Under Reminders:
- Daily reminder: one reminder a day at the time you pick. Turning it off cancels the reminders the app has scheduled.
- Reminder time: moves in 15-minute steps.
- Streak at risk: only when your goal is still open in the evening.
- Review due and New clips (once a week, when we add clips).
Set Quiet hours to stop reminders between two times. Reminders are scheduled on your phone. We do not send them from a server.
To block all SpeakGOAT notifications, turn them off in your phone's settings: Settings › Notifications › SpeakGOAT on iPhone, or Settings › Apps › SpeakGOAT › Notifications on Android. If they are off there, the app's Notifications screen shows Open system settings.
Turn off usage data
By default, the app sends us usage data, such as screens you open, lines you practise, scores, settings you change, and your app and phone OS version. It is linked to Your ID, not to your name or email.
To stop it, go to Profile › Settings › Data & privacy and turn off Share usage data. The app stops sending usage data and discards events it has not sent yet.
The app still contacts our servers for features that need them, such as YouTube search, calls with Goat and scoring. Usage data sent before you turned it off stays on our servers until you use Delete account or ask us to delete it.
Download or delete your data
Download: go to Profile › Settings › Data & privacy › Export my data. The app turns your profile, progress, practice history, review queue, sessions and scores on this phone into JSON text, including what speech recognition heard for each line. Then it opens the share sheet, so you can save the text in a notes app or send it, for example by email. Recordings, your answers from setup, saved clips, recent searches and Your ID are not included.
Delete: see Delete your data. It explains what each delete option removes. Profile › Settings › Account › Delete account also deletes the data our servers keep for Your ID.
Calls with Goat
Goat is an AI, not a person. It runs on AI models from other companies, and it can get things wrong.
What is sent during a call:
- Talking to Goat: hold the mic while you talk. When you let go, the recording goes to our server, which sends it to OpenAI to turn it into text. Our server sends that text to Anthropic to write Goat's reply, and to OpenAI to turn the reply into Goat's voice. Neither gets Your ID.
- Speaking cards: speech recognition turns what you say into text, on your phone when it can, otherwise through Apple or Google.
- Camera: if you turn it on, you only see yourself on your screen. The video is not sent.
We do not store your recordings or what you say in a call, unless you report the call. OpenAI and Anthropic may keep it for a limited time under their own policies.
Goat is told to steer away from harmful or adult topics, but AI can still say something wrong or odd. Don't share passwords, payment details or other private information in a call. You can tap End call at any time. If Goat says something wrong or harmful, tap Report this call when the call ends. In the onboarding chat, press and hold the tutor's message to report it. Under a word meaning, tap Report. You can also email us with Your ID and the time of the call.
YouTube videos won't play
Videos you find on the Watch tab play in YouTube's own player inside the app. A video may not play because:
- its owner does not allow it to play in other apps. The app shows "This video can't play inside SpeakGOAT." Tap Open on YouTube to watch it there.
- it was removed, made private or is not available in your country
- your connection is slow or offline. If the player does not load within a few seconds, the app tries once more, then marks the video as unavailable.
If a video plays but you cannot shadow it, it has no English captions or the captions did not load. Watch and repeat along, or try again later.
Still stuck? Check your connection, update the app, or pick another video. If many videos fail, email us with Your ID and a link to one of them.
